Rufescent Tiger-heron breeding season in Ecuador

In early November 2012, in eastern Ecuador, P. Edwards and myself observed a nest of Rufescent Tiger-heron (Tigrisoma lineatum) in a tree beside an oxbow lake, at Sani Lodge, on the north bank of the river Napo. The nest held a single well-grown and partially feathered nestling, and was sited c. 3 m above the water level. The only previously published observations of nesting in Ecuador have been from March and April, but the present record indicates that the breeding season is either much more prolonged than realized in this region, or the presence of a bimodal peak in nesting.
