A recent nest of Green-crowned Plovercrest (Stephanoxis lalandi) found in Itatiaia National Park, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), on 12 November 2009, was sited c. 4 m above ground in bamboo beside a road, being supported by a bamboo stalk and two stems at right angles below it. Nest was constructed of brown vegetable matter with some lichen and live moss as decoration, which was most profuse on side of nest facing bank of road, and bound together and to the supporting branches using spider web. Female incubated the two white eggs with bill (held at c. 20°, except once in heavy rain), tail (held vertically) and wings (held at 60°) all visible above rim of nest; in mid-morning period, off-bouts rarely lasted as long as five minutes, but were regular (suggesting in early stages of incubation), with on-bouts typically of 15–20 minutes.
