Conservation Status
Not globally threatened. Currently considered Data Deficient. Restricted-range species: present in Central Papuan Mountains EBA. Very poorly known; apparently rare, but this is perhaps a reflection of the marked lack of information about this species. Appears to occur at low density, but it is secretive and likely to be overlooked unless singing. Recent sightings at Ambua, near Tari, Papua New Guinea (1) and in Wapoga, Papua (2). There is no information on the likely extent of its distribution, no population estimates and no data on trends or threats. Remoteness of its habitat should assist in protecting it from deleterious human actions. Lack of information precludes a reliable assessment of its risk of extinction; it is therefore considered Data Deficient. Field studies are urgently needed.
