About the Author(s)
Introduction
Antoine Touret is a French-Chilean biologist, who studied at the Versailles Saint Quentin-en-Yvelines University. He began birding at 16. He is involved in research projects on wetland ecology, road effects on animal populations and is currently studying plant-animal interactions in the semi-arid region. He has participated in the “Atlas of nesting birds” with NGOs Red de Observadores de Aves y Vida Silvestre de Chile. At present, he is studying for his master’s degree at Lyon University. His contact email is: atouret99@gmail.com.
Carlos E. Rivas, a Venezuelan architect, naturalist, and wildlife photographer, got his start in birding thanks to his friend and mentor, Gustavo A. Rodríguez† (biologist, author, and collaborator in many bird field guides). Rivas became a local guide in the west-central Region of Venezuela, where he wrote some manuscripts on the distribution of birds. He has participated in related activities as a facilitator in birding workshops for schoolchildren in rural areas with the support of local NGOs, the "Neotropical Census of Aquatic Birds" with the Unión Venezolana de Ornitólogos (UVO) organized by Wetlands International (WI), and as a Banding Assistant in the bird banding program for the Monitoring Overwinter Survival (MoSI) with Fundación Científica Ara Macao under the supervision of The Institute for Bird Populations. In Chile, since 2020, he has been a member of the Red de Observadores de Aves y Vida Silvestre de Chile (ROC), an organization with which he has recently collaborated actively, making full revisions of the accounts of some Andean and austral species for Birdsoftheworld.org. In addition, he contributed to the journal La Chiricoca as an author. His contact emails are carlos.birding@gmail.com and rivasc@protonmail.com.
